What did we do before we had the Internet!

OK, I already know part of the answer to the question that is the title of this post – we used trade magazines, and talked to professionals, and trusted salespeople, and instructors. But that did not always mean that they could be trusted – especially the salespeople! One of the things I like about the Internet is that we have more resources to turn to. So if we want to know details about acoustic guitars ratings, for example, we can use search engines to help us find ratings, or we can go to various websites that specialize in musical instruments and see what their customers have to say about the products.

Great fashion for under $20

Women and fashion are a funny thing. Most women hate wearing clothes that are out of fashion, and I have to admit that when I open my closet doors and look at my clothes, there are quite a few outfits in there that although I love them dearly I won’t wear them because they are not the current “in style” fashion.

I’m so pleased that I’ve discovered a great website that sells discount fashion! Everything on the website sells for $17.95 or less! How great is that! I’ve been looking at some of their great clothing to see what I’d like to buy for the upcoming winter season. Since styles change so frequently, I like to buy cheap clothing when I can find styles I like.  Why spend hundreds of dollars on something that is going to be out of style next year?

Websites and webhosting

I have become more interested in learning more about the Internet. Not just how to make money, or buy things from the Internet, but general information like the history of the Internet, the technology behind it, different platforms, programming languages, the whole “kit and kaboodle” as it were. I find it a very interesting subject. In my pursuit of knowledge, I have been delighted to find so much information is available for free over the Internet itself!

There are a lot of articles and websites out there on the Internet about how to make money using the technology of the Internet. One article I read about making money using the Internet suggests that buying multiple domains is a smart business strategy. I think that makes a lot of sense – it helps to reduce the chances of a competitor getting a similar website and getting accidental hits from consumers that are trying to find you!

I found a website that goes above and beyond the traditional webhosting rating service of listing what they think are the top ten best webhosts (which is a good thing because their top ten list only has four companies listed!) They have a section of informational articles about things that are related to webhosting, the internet, programming, websites, etc. I’ve spent a lot of time reading and learning about the Internet there!

Internet marketing

In this global economy, the Internet is the place to be if you want to advertise your business globally. 2 Market 2 Market Your Dot Com is a marketing company poised to help all businesses, large or small to market their business over the Internet. I was just checking out their website and was interested to see that they are willing to take on small customers as well as large ones. Most marketing companies (unlike this one) don’t seem to want to waste their time on the “little” guys with the small businesses.

Antivirus Software Programs

My brother was talking to me last night about the different Antivirus Software Programs that are on the market today. There are so many of them, it is really hard to make a decision about which one really is the best one to get! My brother was concerned about making sure that he has the best one out there because one of his best friends recently had his computer hacked into and now his friend is having identity theft issues AND his computer isn’t working right. He had to take his computer to a repair shop for them to clean it up and is going through some major credit problems because of the identity theft issue.

So now we have been spending a lot of time on the Internet trying to come up with the best possible solutions for the security of computers that are on the Internet almost all of the time.  Personally, I think it would be wise to turn your computer off when you are not using it, as I think that most of the time the hackers get into the computer in the middle of the night. But viruses can sneak into your computer in a lot of different ways, so that really is not the complete answer. One good option we are looking into is a suite of software that we found online. They sell a suite of software that includes anti-spyware, anti-virus, anti-spam, and anti-phishing protection. It also has an identity theft toolbar to help protect your identity.
