Options for computer backups – backup online!

Online Backup is an economical and easy way to continuously back up computer files.  I’ve been doing a little bit of research on the subject ever since the office computers started acting up a few weeks ago.  We’ve become concerned that the computers are going to crash and we are going to lose our data, so we have been backing up to local media every couple of hours, just in case.  It has been a real pain in the neck trying to keep everything backed up on local media every couple of hours!  Our “IT guy” has been on vacation and his “backup” is too overwhelmed to get to our office quickly, so we’ve been struggling with the situation.

Anyway, I’m going to suggest to my boss that we subscribe to the online backup services of IDrive.com.  They provide online storage and backup solutions to small businesses and private individuals at very competitive prices.  They provide services for Windows or Mac, and their system sounds reliable and easy to learn and to use.  Their basic service starts at only $4.95 a month and includes 2GB of free storage.  I don’t think that is going to be enough for the office, though, so I’m going to suggest that we subscribe to their IDrive Pro service which provides 150GB of storage.  That should be enough storage.

On the subject of file backup, sharing and storage …

Online backup is becoming common these days. It is estimated that 70-75% of all PC’s will be connected to online backup services with in the next decade.

Thousands of online backup companies exist, from one guy operating in his apartment to fortune 500 companies.

Choosing the best online backup company will be very confusing and difficult. One website I find very helpful in making a decision to pick an online backup company is:

    BackupReview.info

This site lists more than 400 online backup companies in its directory and ranks the top 25 on a monthly basis.
