When I showed it to my parents when they came over for supper last night they laughed like crazy too! So I decided to put it here on my blog to make it easier for them to find it from their place if they want to show it to their friends at a later point in time. So this is for you Mom & Dad!

I recently visited my friend in Staten Island, New York. She lives there but travels north to work in Manhattan every day. When we decided that I would come out and visit for a month she promised me she would call direct tv staten island to see if my favorite show, which she does not watch, was available there. She told me if it wasn’t she would add some channels. I laughed and told her that I hoped to spend most of my time touring New York but that watching television in the evening after a busy day of sightseeing would be relaxing and appreciated. She knows that I am a television junkie, thus the reason for her promise to have my programs available. I had a great time, got to view my shows at night, and the month flew by. I really enjoyed going over to Ellis Island and seeing the Statue of Liberty, shopping in New York City, and people watching! New York is a true melting pot of culture and diversity. It is so much fun to be out and about and in the middle of the fast pace there. I enjoyed my time but as the saying goes, there is no place like home!

I’ve been trying to find the recipe online for that strawberry salad that I mentioned a few days ago that I enjoyed so much at the Longhorn Steakhouse recipe. I was hoping that maybe the Facebook page or the website for the Longhorn would have a section that would share their recipes. After all, Ruby Tuesday shares their recipes, so I figured that Longhorn would as well! Can’t find it anywhere! So I guess I’m going to have to get a copy of the menu item description and try to duplicate it myself. I can’t afford to drive into town every day just to eat that delicious salad!

One of my favorite food items to order when I go out to a restaurant that I am not familiar with is a country-fried steak. I don’t know why I’ve never tried cooking it myself, but I’m thinking it is because I’m not a big fan of frying foods. When I was first learning how to cook food for my family, when I would fry food I would end up getting hot oil spattered on me (which really hurt quite a bit!) and hot oil would spatter on the stove top, which was a huge pain in the neck to clean up. And then after all of that, I never quite knew what I was supposed to do with the leftover oil? Seems like such a waste to throw it out, but I just could not imagine keeping it and re-using it in the future.

If you DO throw it out, how am I supposed to dispose of it? I’ve tried pouring it into empty cans, but there really is not a good way to seal the top of the can to prevent the oil from spilling out. I really don’t think that you are supposed to pour it down the sink, are you? I have a septic system and I think that pouring all of that oil down the sink could be harmful to the septic system. What do YOU do with your used frying oil?

Ever since the Longhorn Steakhouse restaurant opened in town I have been offering up the suggestion to eat there whenever someone says “let’s go out tonight, I feel like having a good steak!” We have several restaurants in town that serve a good steak, but the Longhorn is my favorite restaurant for steak. I would go there and order a Flo’s filet, baked potato, and a side salad. Usually would not order any dessert because I would be waaaaay too full to even think about eating any more food! The hot bread that the wait staff brings to the table is delicious, and I could eat that bread for hours on end and be perfectly happy!

A few months ago I went to the Longhorn in a group, celebrating a good friend’s birthday. For some crazy reason I looked more closely at the menu than I had in the past and saw a great looking strawberry salad offered as a side dish. So I went ahead and ordered the strawberry salad along with my steak, and I could not believe how gigantic that salad was! I thought is was a side dish, but it sure seemed to me like it was a meal in itself!

Last night I had the opportunity to go to the Longhorn for supper again, and this time I was sure to tell the waiter that I wanted the SIDE strawberry salad, not the main course salad. I had looked at the menu again and saw that there were two different options. Well, again when the salad came out from the kitchen, it was HUGE! All I can say is that it was delicious, and I don’t have any idea how I managed to eat all of my dinner, but somehow I did.

I’ve decided that it is time for me to clean out my closet. There are some very old clothes that I will probably never wear again that is just taking up valuable space that I need. I recently gained about twenty pounds and I have a hunch that new weight just might be here to stay. I now have clothes in my closet that are at least two sizes too small and more than ten years old, so I really should get rid of them.

Hopefully I’ll find some time this weekend to go through my closet and weed out those clothes and determine whether to throw them away, hand them down to a friend, or donate them to a charity, or try a local consignment shop. I have a good friend that told me that there is a new consignment shop in town that she has taken her old clothes to, and she has bought a few things there as well. I think I’ll check that out – if I can get a little bit of money out of these clothes that I can’t wear anymore that would be awesome!

This morning I had some errands to run and one of them was to pick up a few things at the local Wal-Mart store. Well, that particular Wal-Mart is undergoing expansion construction and it is a difficult place to get in and out right now. When I had parked my car and was walking into the store, I was following a young woman who was pushing a stroller. The woman was, in my opinion, dressed very provocatively, but that did not really bother me too much. I try to avoid judging people. As we walked past the construction crew, a lot of the construction crew commenced to whistle and shout at the young woman. I had to wonder if that made the woman feel good, or if it bothered her. I know that I was thinking that the crew should not be doing that because it could be offensive to some of the customers and it could drive them away from the store. How do you feel about that?

Thanks for the guest post by Jo Levy

I was considering the positive and negative elements that would arise if I were to get wild blue at my new house. I had heard of the satellite Internet service provider before I moved, but this part of Oklahoma really favors the company and its services. When a smaller town vouches for a company in relation to the Internet service they provide, it is a pretty good sign. I always thought smaller towns were the hardest to please and to live in if you walked to a different tune than the average citizen. It seems like larger and more diverse cities can be more tolerant than very small towns. I am not sure why exactly that is the case, but it definitely is normal around here to dislike someone who is not necessarily very normal. The only benefit I have seen from that fact is that I can trust the people in this town when they vouch for a provider or when they do not. I know they are the harshest judges around. Once I talked to a few of them, the positive elements of getting the service seemed to far outnumber the negatives.
