The bucket

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Last night I turned on the television and found that the channel it was already on was showing the movie “The Bucket List.” Well, that was a movie that I’d always wanted to watch but never got around to watching it, so I settled in and watched it last night. It was already in progress, and I’m not sure how much I had missed of it, but I’m pretty sure that I didn’t miss too much. The point where I started watching it the two men were just meeting each other for the first time in the hospital.

I have to admit that the movies really was a great movie. And I have decided to make my very own bucket list. One of the things that I’d like to do is take roping lessons. Just for the heck of it! What kinds of things would you put on your bucket list?

I Want Breakfast

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Anyone who works in food service must enjoy this video clip of Michael Douglas when he wants breakfast. His line, “Have you ever heard the policy of the customer is always right?” is met by the manager saying, “We don’t have that policy.” Probably the most honest line in movies to date.

Another vampire for Halloween.

This guest post from Werner Rogers

Every year I try to tell my son, not again, oh no, not again. But he doesn’t listen. He doesn’t want any part of what I have to say. He is determined to be a vampire each and every Halloween. The neighbors already know. Everybody already knows. Every time we go trick or treating my son is going to be a vampire.

It doesn’t matter what movie comes out that year. It doesn’t matter what cartoon is popular. We are going trick or treating, and he is going to be a blood sucking vampire. He wouldn’t have it any other way. My neighbors try to act like they are shocked to see him dressed as a vampire again, but after five years, I don’t think it works anymore. After we have collected all the candy that we can, we usually come home and watch our satellite tv we got from this website. I bet you can guess what we are watching as we pour the candy on the floor and start to go through it. Yes, you guessed it, we are watching vampire movies. They are his favorite thing to watch on Halloween. It doesn’t bother me, just as long as my little vampire is having fun.

Childhood boogey men

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

I can remember as a child my parents sometimes would drive past one of the area’s mental health treatment centers and tell us that it was a terrible place.  They would put the fear of wild-eyed boogeymen escaping from their straight jackets and padded cells stalking us on the dark streets at night.  And I can remember watching “One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and getting a really negative view of mental health treatment facilites in general.

Isn’t it awful how this kind of slanted and negative information can make it so difficult for people who need help to actually ask for it?  So many people are afraid of the social stigma that might be cast upon them if they seek help.  Not too long ago, one of our Vice-Presidential hopefuls had to drop out of the race because it came to light that he once sought psychiatric help!  A real shame, that is!

iPad Videos

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

My brother stopped by my house for a short visit and to show off his new iPad. It’s nice electronic device – but not sure that I could put one to good use. He says his next purchase will be an iPad Video Converter so he can watch all the different videos he has stored.

With all these different programs and devices, there are over a dozen different video formats. So someone like my brother, who is a gadget geek, needs a converter. In fact, he probably needs aVideo Converter for Mac, because he was a Mac enthusiast for years.

The feature that I like best about a Video Converter is that you can extract pictures from a video and find just the exact moment of someone’s expression or action, then make a photo from it. None of the digital cameras that I’ve had will take a photo at the exact moment that I want – there is often a delay from the autofocus before the shutter works. If I take a short video and then run it through the converter, I can isolate the exact shot that I want.
