It seems to be everywhere!

My mom has been doing a lot of reading lately about Mesothelioma and Mesothelioma Cancer as part of her continuing education requirements for her job. She initially got interested in the subject around 1996 when her boss put her in charge of checking their office building for asbestos, as part of an OSHA inspection preparation.

I always thought that asbestos was essentially limited to insulation and brake pad linings, but listening to my mom talk about it I’ve learned that it is roof shingles, and tile flooring as well. I can recall a time when I was driving home from work one day and saw a house that was being demolished, but it was in a very large clear plastic tent as part of the demolation process. No one had to tell me; I just figured it was part of an asbestos removal project. That’s rather a scary thought to me, that there is so much asbestos out in the world that entire houses have to be tented in order to be demolished!

Some things are still affordable

One of today’s best bargains in this tough economic times is the Zenni optical great deals on prescription eyeglasses.  I was surprised to find that the exact same style of eyeglass frames that I spent about $200 on last year cost only $29.95 on their website.  The last time I thought about ordering glasses online I was confused about how we could make sure that they would fit my face – so I didn’t order them.  And I was concerned that if the doctor wrote the wrong prescription, that the online supplier wouldn’t give me a chance to fix the problem.

So I was reading their website about the process of ordering eyeglasses from them.  I saw that they don’t do prism corrections, which means that I can’t order my prescription glasses from them because I have a large prism correction.  That totally bummed me out; I was looking forward to saving some serious money with them!  But as I kept reading I saw that I can order just the empty frames for a 50% discount and then take them to my eye doctor’s and let put in the frames.  I know that my eye doctor will do that (he might not be happy about it, but he will do it.)

Will it work?

My cousin’s girlfriend Bri has been raving about how much she loves her new magnetic bracelet.  She said that it has helped her arthritis tremendously!  So I started doing a little bit of research on magnetic therapy.  I couldn’t believe how many ailments magnets are supposed to help! From headaches, backaches, insomnia, stress, to diabetes!   Bri told me that she bought her bracelet at the billythetree.com website.  So I’ve gone online to check them out.

Their prices certainly seem reasonable enough, and they have a good shipping and satisfaction policy.  I think I’ll order one for myself and see if I notice any difference in how I feel!  Sometimes I wonder if these things “work” because of the placebo effect, so I’m always curious, yet cautious.  What is your experience?  Do you have any magnetic jewelry?  Has it improved your life?

The eyes have it

For many years I’ve been interested in the new contact lens technology that allows more people to wear contacts than ever before.  The contact lens technology has progressed to the point where there are very few people in the world that can’t wear contact lenses.  I tried contacts many years ago but wasn’t happy with them – at the time the eye doctor said that I had to wear semi-soft lenses.  Well, I couldn’t get those crazy things out of my eyes!  So I gave up.  Well, after reading about the latest contact lenses on the market, I’m thinking that maybe I’ll give it another try.

Watching television

Sometimes I wonder why in the world people would want hundreds upon hundreds on television channels on their television!  When I was growing up, we only had a rotating antenna on our rooftop and got about six television stations!  We would spend most of our day working or playing, and only watch the television in the evenings or on Saturday morning (cartoons for the kids!)

Life sure has changed since the introduction of cable and satellite television!  Most of my friends and neighbors now have Direct Satellite TV for their television.  They tell me how much they enjoy being able to watch so many different sports channels on their Direct TV, and so many good movies, too!  I can see why having Satellite Directv would be especially good for shut-ins who can’t move around very much – at least having the wide variety of choices could help prevent them from going stir-crazy!  I just hope that healthy people balance their lives and get plenty of exercise, too!  Maybe put a television in front of their treadmill so they’re walking while watching!
