The bucket

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Last night I turned on the television and found that the channel it was already on was showing the movie “The Bucket List.” Well, that was a movie that I’d always wanted to watch but never got around to watching it, so I settled in and watched it last night. It was already in progress, and I’m not sure how much I had missed of it, but I’m pretty sure that I didn’t miss too much. The point where I started watching it the two men were just meeting each other for the first time in the hospital.

I have to admit that the movies really was a great movie. And I have decided to make my very own bucket list. One of the things that I’d like to do is take roping lessons. Just for the heck of it! What kinds of things would you put on your bucket list?

The new economy

I was thinking about taking some Online Courses in marketing this next fall.  I’ve just filled out the FASFA form that I got from the http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ website to see if I might qualify for any financial assistance.  There certainly seems to be a big push for people to improve their skill set as a way to improve their chances of a good life.

When I was taking college courses a few years ago I did take one course in marketing, and found it to be fun and interesting.  Something that I think that I would enjoy learning more about!

Unfortunately I keep hearing on the news about how most of the local brick and mortar colleges are drastically increasing their tuition rates, so I am going to look at online degree programs in marketing to see if I can just do it all online.  I’m beyond the point of wanting to live in a dorm with a bunch of rowdy teenagers, and I just want to learn my stuff and market myself into a marketing job!

After all, I think that sales and services are the two areas where employment will continue to grow.  And I’ve always had good luck in any job that involved sales.  Maybe with a degree in it I’ll be able to get a better paying job!

Abstaining from the Flag Debate

Saturday, April 9th, 2011

Several of my friends have posted this questions on their Facebook walls: What does the Confederate flag mean to you?

I realize that there are a lot of possible answers, and the most controversial ones have to do with slavery and racism. I try to stay away from discussions about race, as I don’t have the same prejudices that many of my friends seem to have. We were in my family raised to be accepting of l people, regardless of the color of their skin. So to hear people disparaged based on the color of their skin or their culture makes no sense to me.

Needless to say, my friends were not happy that I refrained from participating in this discussion. I did read the other people’s answers and have to admit that they were very discouraging.

More Vegetables

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Today I realized that my cooking has gotten into a rut of the same old recipes and the same foods on the menu each night. I am sick of my own cooking!

There are some great shows on cable TV about cooking, so I think it would be a good idea to devote at least one a week to watching a cooking show and expanding my food preparation skills. I also want to expand my knowledge of vegetables. There are so many different fruits and vegetables in the grocery store produce section now. I don’t even know how to prepare and serve half of them! First I need to learn how to select the right one, when is it ripe? Do you peel it or not? Discard the seeds or not? There is so much to learn!

Drama Free Zone

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Two of my friends from when I was growing up have reconnected on Facebook. Of course, I am friends with both of them. But there is all this drama now – with nasty comments going back and forth between them. I am not happy with this recent development and don’t want to be a party to either side in silly arguments. I hope they find a way to resolve their issues and get back to being friends.
