For years I’ve been hearing on television shows, and from my own doctors, that taking one low-dose aspirin a day helps to prevent heart attacks. For the most part I haven’t taken aspirin at all because it irritates my stomach. It irritates my stomach BIG TIME! And I know that the so-called “prevention” factor is that it acts as a blood thinner. Ibuprofen ALSO acts as a blood thinner, and relieves my headaches better than other pain killers. I tend to take a couple of ibuprofen almost every day, so I figure that the advice to take one aspirin a day really does not apply to me.

Today I was reading an article on the Time.com website that a study done in England has concluded that aspirin does not reduce the risk of heart attacks in people who are prone to be diabetic. Well, I think that news is going to shake up the medical community! I wonder what I’m going to be hearing on the television news (and from the doctors) NOW!

My cousin’s girlfriend Bri has been raving about how much she loves her new magnetic bracelet. She said that it has helped her arthritis tremendously! So I started doing a little bit of research on magnetic therapy. I couldn’t believe how many ailments magnets are supposed to help! From headaches, backaches, insomnia, stress, to diabetes! Bri told me that she bought her bracelet at the billythetree.com website. So I’ve gone online to check them out.

Their prices certainly seem reasonable enough, and they have a good shipping and satisfaction policy. I think I’ll order one for myself and see if I notice any difference in how I feel! Sometimes I wonder if these things “work” because of the placebo effect, so I’m always curious, yet cautious. What is your experience? Do you have any magnetic jewelry? Has it improved your life?

I was delighted to read on the health.msn.com website that researchers now say that full fat chees is good for you! They say that it does NOT raise cholesterol levels, and actually helps dieters to lose weight! That is really good news because I love cheese! I have tried the low-fat stuff and I don’t like it – it has no flavor (except for cream chees, which is yummy!) So I will no longer avoid cheese (I HAVE been avoiding cheese!) and can start buying it (and snacking on it!) on a regular basis again!

The other night I got a phone call from a friend. She had recently discussed having breast augmentation surgery with her husband. She wanted to know if there was a website that she could visit to get more information on the subject. I suggested a great health directory that I came across while doing some research of my own. This site not only has medical information but also was a great fitness directory as well as a general health and wellness directory too.

There is a vast amount of information on everything from aging, to reproductive health, to women’s health and a lot more. I told her that it should answer the questions she may have forgotten to ask her doctor. You know how that is, you get into the doctor’s office and you have a slew of questions you thought about before the visit, but you end up forgetting half of them and then remember after you have left. They even have information on the health and well being of your pets!!!!

Last night I turned on the television and found that the channel it was already on was showing the movie “The Bucket List.” Well, that was a movie that I’d always wanted to watch but never got around to watching it, so I settled in and watched it last night. It was already in progress, and I’m not sure how much I had missed of it, but I’m pretty sure that I didn’t miss too much. The point where I started watching it the two men were just meeting each other for the first time in the hospital.

I have to admit that the movies really was a great movie. And I have decided to make my very own bucket list. One of the things that I’d like to do is take roping lessons. Just for the heck of it! What kinds of things would you put on your bucket list?

I was thinking about taking some Online Courses in marketing this next fall. I’ve just filled out the FASFA form that I got from the http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ website to see if I might qualify for any financial assistance. There certainly seems to be a big push for people to improve their skill set as a way to improve their chances of a good life.

When I was taking college courses a few years ago I did take one course in marketing, and found it to be fun and interesting. Something that I think that I would enjoy learning more about!

Unfortunately I keep hearing on the news about how most of the local brick and mortar colleges are drastically increasing their tuition rates, so I am going to look at online degree programs in marketing to see if I can just do it all online. I’m beyond the point of wanting to live in a dorm with a bunch of rowdy teenagers, and I just want to learn my stuff and market myself into a marketing job!

After all, I think that sales and services are the two areas where employment will continue to grow. And I’ve always had good luck in any job that involved sales. Maybe with a degree in it I’ll be able to get a better paying job!

Several of my friends have posted this questions on their Facebook walls: What does the Confederate flag mean to you?

I realize that there are a lot of possible answers, and the most controversial ones have to do with slavery and racism. I try to stay away from discussions about race, as I don’t have the same prejudices that many of my friends seem to have. We were in my family raised to be accepting of l people, regardless of the color of their skin. So to hear people disparaged based on the color of their skin or their culture makes no sense to me.

Needless to say, my friends were not happy that I refrained from participating in this discussion. I did read the other people’s answers and have to admit that they were very discouraging.

Today I realized that my cooking has gotten into a rut of the same old recipes and the same foods on the menu each night. I am sick of my own cooking!

There are some great shows on cable TV about cooking, so I think it would be a good idea to devote at least one a week to watching a cooking show and expanding my food preparation skills. I also want to expand my knowledge of vegetables. There are so many different fruits and vegetables in the grocery store produce section now. I don’t even know how to prepare and serve half of them! First I need to learn how to select the right one, when is it ripe? Do you peel it or not? Discard the seeds or not? There is so much to learn!
