Can you dig it?

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

One of the things that has always fascinated me was how so many people got caught up in the frenzy of digging for gold “back in the day.”  People were killed over the rights to a parcel of land that they were trying to extract gold from.  I think that it’s funny that nowadays people actually pay money to go on “gold digging” vacations – where they pay to go somewhere to pan or dig for gold.  Shaking a gold pan?  No thank you!  I’d much rather take my vacations at DisneyWorld!  Or maybe relaxing on a beach somewhere.    I just can’t understand the draw to pay money to do that on a vacation; I can’t imagine anyone makes any decent money finding any gold doing that sort of thing!

As for me, I would think that the smarter way to make money digging for precious commodities would be to invest in mining stocks and let someone else take the risks and do the digging while I stay in the comfort of my own home and/or office.  My sponsors seem to think so too! Since the price of oil is bound to continue to climb, coal mining will continue to do well and make money as the world looks for other ways to energize our lifestyles.

Hospitality Jobs

Monday, March 7th, 2011

A friend of mine has suggested that I consider a part time job at a hotel. There are many jobs in the hotel and motel industry, including desk clerk and night auditor. I am confident that I could easily perform those jobs on a part time basis. I do not htink I would want to do either job on a full time basis.

My friend says that she just applied for a job with the Marriott Corporation. I have always like the Marriott hotels and would like to be a part of a solid organization. If I decide to take her advice, perhaps I will start with an online application with Marriott, too.

Summer time is fun time

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

I think that it is really a shame that we, as Americans, don’t know very much about life in the rest of the world.  For example, I’m always under the impression that there is so much war-like action going on that living in Israel would not be a safe thing to do.  That is one reason why I was so surprised when my boss told me that he is planning to send his kids to one of the summer camps in israel for a few weeks this summer.  He told me that he was going to send them to an ecamp in israel for a week and then have them stay with his brother and sister for a week.

Apparently he has been sending his children to a summer camp in israel every year for the past three years.  He likes to fly over there with them and visits friends and relatives while they are in camp, then spends a week with them and the relatives, and then they fly home together.  Sounds like a good plan!

My own story

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

I was reading a forum page about a guy who was complaining about police harassment in Orlando and it reminded me of my own personal story of what I considered police harrassment.

I was a sixteen year old girl driving my Chevy home from the beach with a couple of my girl friends. We had a couple of small pieces of driftwood on the back shelf of the car. A police officer pulled me over for no apparant reason. He asked for my license and registration, and then he decided to do a walk around. He had me turn the lights on and off, and the turn signal lights, honk the horn, etc. He told me that we had to take the driftwood out of the back window. It seemed as if he was taking a very long time, as if he was stalling for some reason!

Then he told me that my left turn blinker wasn’t working and to pull into the next service station and ask them to fix it. He let me go with a verbal warning about driving the car with a faulty light. When we pulled away, he followed us until we pulled into the next service station. I told the mechanic there that the police officer told us we needed to fix the turn signal. The mechanic told us to show him the turn signals – they worked fine! Then the mechanic told us that the police officer was just messing with us! What a pain in the butt!

Valentines Days is approaching

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

My brother has a girlfriend who works at a florist shop, and she told me that the store needs some help delivering flowers on Monday. They asked me if I was available, and offered to pay me twice what I normally make for a day’s work! I thought that would be a great change of pace and jumped at the chance! I’m looking forward to seeing the expressions on the faces of the people who receive flowers on Valentine’s Day!
