Unexpected Flea Problem

Friday, February 24th, 2012

I spent the night last night at a friend’s house.  Her house appeared very clean, so I was surprised when I woke up this morning with my legs covered with flea bites!  I suggested to her that she might want to put her pets on some kind of medication like Frontline or Advantage that sterilizes the fleas that bite her pets so that any eggs the fleas lay won’t hatch.

Bringing some spice to our entertaining with a bar cart

Guest post written by Penny Carlon

The past few times that we’ve had parties at our house, it’s been kind of a hassle to get back and forth between our guests and the kitchen. I saw something in a decorating magazine the other day that I thought would really help out with that, a bar cart. I’ve seen them before, mainly years ago when I was growing up and we would go to parties at houses of my parents’ friends. So it’s pretty retro, but I think that the way it’s style can really make it look nice and modern in our home.

So I set my heart on finding a bar cart for our home. When I was online looking up some of that stuff, I ran across some info on sears roofing. We could definitely use some new roofing, so I think that I’m going to go through them to get a replacement.

I finally tracked down a few different options for the bar cart and I’m going to figure out which one will best fit with our decor. As much as I want one, I don’t’ want to completely change my whole decor just to fit it in.

Babysitting for a friend

Friday, February 10th, 2012

One of my friends asked me to babysit for her tonight so she can go out to eat dinner with her hubby to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary.  I said, sure, I’d be glad to babysit.  They have a little baby that is only three months old, they said they’d bring the baby over here and come back to get her around nine.  So, I’m expecting them to arrive any minute now.  I adore babies, especially when they are so young that they can’t run away from you or talk back to you!  I love to rock them and cuddle with them.  I’m looking forward to babysitting this one, she is a sweetie pie!

Chocolate is the food of love

Friday, February 10th, 2012

For years I’ve heard that eating chocolate releases a chemical in the bloodstream that gives the consumer the same “rush” that they get when they are in love. Maybe that is why giving a woman birthday chocolates or Valentine’s day chocolates is such a popular gift. I’ve read that eating dark chocolate is actually supposed to be healthy for you, but to be honest I don’t care for the bitterness of dark chocolate. My favorite chocolate is white chocolate, which I understand isn’t really chocolate at all, but is almond paste.

Whenever I make a batch of brownies from a mix I like to add some semi-sweet chocolate chips in the batter. If I have some white chips I’ll add them too. I think that it just makes the brownies a little bit extra special. You should try it too sometime; your family will love you for it!

Injured neighborhood cat

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

There is a neighborhood cat that we see walking around our yard everyday.  We’ve never tried to get close to it, we always figured it would just run off.  Besides, we didn’t want to start feeding it and never get rid of it.  We hoped it belonged to someone and wasn’t a wild cat, but we weren’t sure if it did have a home or not.  Tonight we saw the cat walking across our back yard, dragging one of it’s rear legs, obviously badly hurt.  By the time I could get to the door to try to coax the cat to me, to try to take care of it, it had disappeared into the woods.  I’m very upset that it is hurt, and now I’m afraid that it doesn’t have an owner to take it to the vet.  I’m afraid that gangrene will set in and it will suffer a painful death.
