Sun, Sand and Golf for the Soul

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Talking with my sister last night, she confided that she was depressed about summer coming to an end. When we were kids, we used to go to the beach quite a bit. If we weren’t at the beach , then we were at the river or at the community pool. Now that we are grownups, we are lucky to get to Myrtle Beach once during the summer. That is just not enough water to refresh my soul. The water re-energizes me, clears my head and makes me feel refreshed. I need http://www.horizonmyrtlebeach.com more than once a year.

I’m trying to talk her into booking a Myrtle Beach hotel with me and getting away at the end of September for a long weekend. I would love to spend four days in the sun and sand and on the golf greens with my sister. That would be heaven.

Finally, after almost an hour of persuading and whining, she agreed to look at some of the Myrtle Beach best hotels and consider going away for 4 days. I hope she follows through on her promise and calls me back tonight to finish making plans.

Try Tilapia

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

My cousin just sent me this recipe for cooking Tilapia. I have never even tried this fish, but I see it on menus and in the seafood departments all the time. So I’m going to take her promise that this is delicious and buy some Tilapia fillets next time I’m at the grocery.

Ads Following Me

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Shopping online has gotten so easy that I don’t even consider going to a regular store unless I just want to shop. When I am ready to buy, I usually go online. Not always – but I’m just now realizing how much my shopping habits have changed.

Some forward-thinking companies have realized that this is happening and may well be the preferred shopping method of the future. So they are using retargeting to drive online traffic back to their web sites. I find this concept fascinating and have even witnessed it first hand.

The way retargeting companies work is they create ways for their online clients to follow their customers around the internet. They especially use banner ads selectively placed in sidebars and headers.

When I looked at a book on a popular web site and then moved away from that site as I surfed other places, the remarketing kicked in and showed me a banner ad for that very same book on the next site that I visited. So if I had the inclination to take a second look, then it was easy for me to just click on that banner ad and go back to the original site to buy that book.

Have you noticed this happening? I noticed it just today!

Can’t Sleep

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Last night I had a terrible time falling asleep. I’m not sure why my mind was racing. I don’t have any pressing issues to face this week. But I could not stop thinking and planning things, and could not relax.

I tried a cup of warmed milk, in hope that it would relax me. But that didn’t help. So I put the TV on CNN and let Larry King talk me to sleep. Thankfully, Larry did not cause me any bad dreams. LOL

Light It Up

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

When i visited my eye doctor last week, he had mentioned something that has just now started to sink in and make sense to me. I had complained about having trouble reading small print but he insists that I do not yet need reading glasses. What he explained is that my eyes need more light to read the smaller print. He suggested that when I notice my eyes straining to read something small, like the expiration date on a coupon, to put more light on the item using lamps or even a flashlight, if necessary.

So this morning I was going through the grocery coupons and pulling out any that have expired. I was having a hard time reading some of the dates, so I moved closer to the desk lamp and held the coupon under that the light. Yes! It does make it easier!

So I was worried about needing glasses to read when all I need to do is buy some new halogen lamps for the desk and sofa tables, where I like to sit and read.
