Even in the boonies

Friday, April 9th, 2010

I’m always surprised by people who tell me that they live so far out in the boonies that they can’t get fast Internet. With satellite sevices such as the wildblue Internet, I don’t think that their excuse is a valid one at all. There are dozens of satellite Internet companies that provide service out to the furthest reaches of the globe!

I cannot even imagine life without the Internet anymore. I use my Internet connection for several hours every day. At first I thought it was a luxury to have, but now I find that I use it more than just about anything else in the house! I use it to watch entertaining clips on you tube, and to keep up on the latest breaking news. I use email to communicate with people at my own convenience and I use Skype to be able to talk one-on-one with loved ones.

I also use the Internet for a lot of my shopping needs. I love finding great deals on Ebay! And the Internet has helped me with research for college papers on several occassions. I find great recipes, and how-to articles. Seems to me anytime someone has a question about something, we always find the answer on the Internet!

Hair sticks

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

I have long hair, and I really like it, but I don’t know a lot about how to fix it up in different styles.  I wish that there were some beauty salons that offered classes in how to style your own hair!  I’ve seen some really pretty hair sticks on the market, and I’ve even bought a few but I don’t have a really good “feel” for how to use them to take full advantage of them and make my hair look really pretty with them.  Sure, I’ve gone to you tube and seen a few instructional videos about how to use them, but I’ve always done better with a “real live” instructor doing “hands on” instruction.  I don’t have a lot of patience for practicing on my own hair because my arms get so tired of having them up for so long while I’m practicing!

Some things are still affordable

One of today’s best bargains in this tough economic times is the Zenni optical great deals on prescription eyeglasses.  I was surprised to find that the exact same style of eyeglass frames that I spent about $200 on last year cost only $29.95 on their website.  The last time I thought about ordering glasses online I was confused about how we could make sure that they would fit my face – so I didn’t order them.  And I was concerned that if the doctor wrote the wrong prescription, that the online supplier wouldn’t give me a chance to fix the problem.

So I was reading their website about the process of ordering eyeglasses from them.  I saw that they don’t do prism corrections, which means that I can’t order my prescription glasses from them because I have a large prism correction.  That totally bummed me out; I was looking forward to saving some serious money with them!  But as I kept reading I saw that I can order just the empty frames for a 50% discount and then take them to my eye doctor’s and let put in the frames.  I know that my eye doctor will do that (he might not be happy about it, but he will do it.)

Where is spring?

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

With it only being April  and the temperatures almost to 90 degrees out, I have to wonder where in the world is spring?  We jumped right from winter to the dog days of August!  I hope this is not an indication of the effects of global warming hitting us in the face so soon!  I don’t like it when it is hotter than 82 out, so at 90 I’m quite cranky if I go outside in that kind of heat!  The weatherman says cooler weather is on the way; I sure hope he’s right!  I’d like to have some nice warm spring weather for a few months before we reach 90 degrees again!

Real Estate Stimulus

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

It is encouraging to know that real estate sales are on the rise. The majority of real estate agents are walking around once again with a smile and a bounce in their step because of this increase in sales. A good amount of these sales are due to the real estate stimulus efforts by our Federal Government. One of their better judgment calls as of late.

Giving first time home buyers a nice tax credit has made a major impact on so many people and has people who would have never even thought about buying a house looking around to see what they can find. And now they have extended this tax credit, once again, and it’s including other options as well. Folks that have lived five years consecutively in the past eight years can receive up to $6,500 from Uncle Sam.

I’ve found a good overview of the extension at Coldwell Banker’s web site, they have an interesting short video that I’ve placed below for your information. This can mean some serious money so it’s good to try and get the word out, if you know what I mean. Once again I have to thank YouTube.com for allowing us to view videos such as this one.
