I like pink!

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

I happen to like pink.  A lot.  I think it was several years ago when I was reading some kind of article about how different colors tend to influence people.  The article suggested that if you want people to like you, then wearing pink cklothes and jewelry would influence their feelings.  And a lot of people who are interested in gemology think that pink quartz gives off the energy of love.  And pink roses are supposed to mean “love” too!

Well, I don’t know if that is true or not, but pink has always been one of my favorite colors, and that article just gave me an excuse to wear more pink clothes and jewelry!

I was just looking at some pictures of ladies Movado Watches and found several pink ones that really tickled my fancy!  So I am definitely dropping a few hints around that for Valentine’s Day I would really like to have the one with a stainless steel band and pink dial.

I think that particular watch has the perfect balance of form, function and beauty.  I’m not the type of person that wears really large “clunky” accessories.  I don’t know why, but it just doesn’t feel like “me.”

Is there anyplace that’s safe?

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

When I hear about all of the different natural disasters that occur around the world, I have to wonder if there is anyplace on earth that is really and truly safe?  It seems that everywhere has SOMETHING catastrophic just waiting around the corner!

My prayers and best wishes go out to the people of Haiti, the victims, their friends and family, and the many rescuers that have arrived or who are on their way to help.  It truly is amazing how many countries and people are putting aside their difference and rising to the occassion and trying to help!

Looking for quotes on cheap auto insurance

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Not too long ago my uncle retired from the insurance company that he worked for.  He worked there for forty years!  I cannot even imagine working for any one company for that long a period of time!  It seems that in this era the businesses don’t want to keep employees that long – they don’t want to pay benefits of any kind!

We had always bought our insurance through him out of a sense of family loyalty, but now that he is no longer in the business my folks have decided to start  looking around for cheap auto insurance quotes on the Internet.   With the economy still in such rough shape it seems like a good idea to see if we can save some money and still have good coverage on our insurance policies!

It wasn’t many years ago that my parents bought a new car and were completely shocked about how much their insurance rates went up when they went to insure it!  I think that the cost of insuring a new car is not something many people take into consideration when they decide to start shopping for a new car!  I know that would be the last thing on my mind if I was looking at a new car!

Anyway, I found a website called cheap-autoinsurance.com and decided to check out what they had to say.  We had to enter our zip code into their little search engine and then they displayed several different low-cost partners to click on to get quotes.  I decided to click on the Progressive link because I know that they have a reputation for comparing lots of different companies at the same time.  I wanted to give it a go and see if Progressive would really tell me if there was a cheaper company than Progressive!  So I typed in my information and sure enough, up popped a grid of different quotes, and one of the insurance companies really WAS cheaper!  I was quite surprised at that result!

Why would I want to eat that?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I see many people who eat something (for example yogurt) because they say they are trying to lose weight.  I look at the caloric value of the yogurt and it is about 200 calories for the container.  Then I look at the caloric value of a Little Debbie Nutty bar – a wonderful chocolate covered wafer with peanut butter filling (yum!) and find that it has the same caloric count!  So if I’m hungry for a sweet snack and have a choice between yogurt and a Nutty Bar, it is going to take a lot of will power to get me to chose the yogurt!  I much prefer a sweet flavor and a crunch!

Higher education

Online Colleges certainly seem to be increasing in popularity lately!  I have many friends who are taking courses in their spare time through one online college or another.  They are very excited about it because they tend to cost less money than brick and mortar colleges, and taking the courses online makes for an easier schedule.  Most online courses you can take the classes at whatever time is convenient for you, so it is much easier than trying to fit in a class according to when you can get child care!

Many times a person’s employer can find a way to assist the student with tuition reimbursement which provides a lot of incentive as well!  One of the things I like about taking courses online is that I can pause for a few minutes and take a break if I need to without disrupting an entire classroom!  And note taking is much easier too!  I’m not the kind of person that can sit through a long boring lecture and actually learn anything!  My learning style is much more visual oriented.  I learn best by reading and writing things down.

That makes online courses a better fit for me, and I think that may also be a big reason why so many other students are using online courses as well.  Plus, you can go to class in your jammies if you want to!
