Houdini

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

I enjoy watching the squirrels in our yard.  There is a red squirrel that I like to call Squirrel Nutkins because he has lost his tale, and that reminds me of a Beatrice Potter tale called Squirrel Nutkins.  The tale is about a squirrel that lost his tale!  Every day I watch the squirrels gather around the bottom of the bird feeder and gather up the sunflower seeds that I’ve scattered there.  I always make sure to scatter lots of seed on the ground so that they will not try too hard to get at the feeder.  I’ve lost a lot of good bird feeders to the squirrels!  I don’t mind them eating the seeds, but I don’t appreciate it when they ruin the feeders!  Maybe I’ll try some of the new squirrel repellants I’ve been hearing about to keep the squirrels away from the feeders completely!

I remember a couple of years ago when a squirrel got into the garage.  Since the garage is attached to the house, we were concerned about the damage he could do the the electrical wiring and we didn’t want to chance a fire.  So we borrowed a Havahart trap from the game warden service, hoping that we could catch and release him.  Well that rascal kept springing the trap but got away!  After a few days of him grabbing the bait and escaping we started to call him “Houdini.”  Well, unfortunately we ended up having to use a rat trap to catch him because he kept escaping the humane one we were using.

Handsets

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

My cousin Nate has been talking about becoming a reseller of military grade communications equipment.  He has found a company called CJ Component Products that deals in a wide variety of military grade communications equipment, and they have a link on their website about getting more information about becoming a dealer or reseller of their equipment.  Nate has always been interested in communications equipment, and he thinks that there is a strong market for such products as military handsets, lightweight handsets, tactical handsets, and tactical wireless headsets both here in the States and in foreign countries.

I have mixed emotions about that.  I’d like to see him succeed, but I think that this forebodes continuing military strife, and I hate to think that the world is going to continue to resort to violent means to settle disputes.  I’d really like to see a lot less military action going on out there!  Of course, if we could use the military for peaceful purposes, like building our roads and bridges, that would be different!  But I don’t think that is going to happen anytime soon!

What’s for supper?

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

I invited a friend over for supper tonight. I invited her because her hubby is out of town for the week, and I didn’t want her to be feeling lonely the whole time. She accepted, but declared that she would bring the supper because she loves to cook! Well, that surprised me to no end, because the last time we talked about cooking, she told me that she didn’t know how to cook anything and NEVER cooks – just eats those Jenny Craig dinners all of the time! So, it is with much anticipation that I await her arrival. I don’t have a clue what she is planning to bring! I’ll let you know if its edible or not!

Strange coincidence

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Driving home this afternoon I saw a bad accident. It must have happened just a few minutes before I got there;the ambulance was just arriving. I saw a pickup truck with the Verizon logo on it lying on it’s side in the woods beside the road. As I was driving past more police and fire trucks were arriving at the scene. The accident was too fresh for a big traffic jam, just a few cars (like mine) slowed down as we approached and saw the flashing police and ambulance lights. I hope the folks in the truck are OK; I didn’t see a second vehicle. Kinda weird, I just remembered I saw an accident almost exactly like it on the way to work this morning, in almost the same place! I wonder what’s up with that location!

April Fools Day

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Well, today is April Fool’s Day. The day when so many people play tricks on each other. I’ve heard that the Conflicker virus is supposed to do something today; I wonder what the effects will be down the road. I hope it doesn’t infect any of my friends computers, or my own either! I’ve installed and updated my virus protection, so I hope I’m protected against it! Maybe the joke is that it won’t really do anything at all?
