Tourism

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

I hate tourists. Except of course, when I am one myself! But when I’m a tourist, I’m polite and neat and not obnoxious at all like most of the tourists that stand out when I go out. Living in an area where tourism is a big industry, I’m exposed to tourists almost every time I leave the house. I almost always see or hear one of them being loud, obnoxious and rude. They expect everyone around them to give them preferential treatment instead of trying to fit in with the locals. Whatever happened to the adage “when in Rome, do as the Romans do?”

I was reading on the Time.com Internet site this morning that there was a poll done among several countries among the hospitality industry to see which tourists are the best and which are the worst. According to the poll, the Japanese tourists are the best and the French are the worst.

I’ve already tried most of the tips

I recently bought a magazine at the store called The Green Guide. It is put out by National Geographic. What attracted me to the magazine was the headline Green Made Simple, and a smaller headline Go Green Save $60 a week. Well, I’m all about saving both the environment and money, so I bought the magazine. All in all I thought it was a good magazine; most of the tips I already was doing, so I was both proud of myself and disappointed in the magazine that they didn’t have many “new” tips for me to use. However, there WAS one new tip that I have started using – instead of paper napkins, use cloth napkins. They claim that I can save $1.68 a week by using cloth napkins, and it is easier on the environment to use cloth instead of paper. So I’ve bought some cloth napkins and we will be using them unless we are eating something tomato based that will stain.

Kitchen island lights

Friday, March 13th, 2009

I have an island type counter in my kitchen that I dearly love, but it is poorly illuminated.  I need to buy an island light to put above it to help me see what I’m doing, but I want something that is really nice looking; not simply functional.  I’ve found a nice website dedicated to decorating with lights called lightingandliving.com that has hundreds of different types of island lights to choose from, but what I especially like about the website is how easy it is to narrow down what you are interested in.  You can type in your specifications into their search function and it filters out all of the ones that would not fit your specs.

New treats

A co-worker brought some candy to work today and put it in a candy dish to share with the rest of the office.  Talk about immediate popularity!  There were a few types of candy in the dish that I’ve never had before; it was interesting to see and try them out.  There were some caramels with creamy centers that were really good!  And some jelly beans made by Starburst that were sour fruit flavors.  I didn’t think I’d like them at all, because I’m not a fan of sour things, but I tried them and thought they were great!  Is there a difference between “tart” and “sour?”  I don’t know, but the next time I buy some candy I’ll be looking for them in the store!

My cousin’s self-image

Friday, March 6th, 2009

My younger cousin has always had a self-image problem.  She has always wanted larger breasts.  She complains that she cannot find clothes that fit her properly; even when she wears a padded bra the clothes don’t fit her very well.  So she has asked me for some Breast Enlargement Advice.

I’ve never considered doing that procedure myself, I’ve always been happy with my body, but I’m flattered that she thinks enough of me to come to me for advice.  I sent her the link to a good website called mya.co.uk/askanexpert and told her that she would find some good information there about the procedure.  That website has a lot of good information about all kinds of cosmetic surgery procedures.
