Reputation management

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

With the advent of the Internet, news travels around the world with just a click of mouse button.  Many of the stories that circulate around the world are opinion stories rather than factual stories.  Some are wishful thinking, some are outright lies.  Once a story gets out, whether it is based on truth or not, it is impossible to erase.  It’s out there.  Reputable organizations can print corrections and retractions later on, and they can even go to the article itself and modify the article (which is a lot handier than with the printed medium – you can’t change the printed copy; just publish a correction or retraction.)  But often by the time that is done, consequences have often begun that are hard to stop.

If a lie is repeated often enough, some people will start to believe it and repeat it and then the damage spreads.  The consequences of a lie that is believed are the same as if it were the truth.  Case in point – the US Congress believed President Bush when he said there were WMD in Iraq, so they authorized him to go to war.  It was a lie, of course, but the consequences were the same as if it had been the truth.  The US invaded Iraq.  The rest is, as they say, history.

The point I’m trying to make is that lies are damaging.  And in the case of the Internet, hard to track down where the lies started and hold people accountable.  People and businesses can be hurt if their reputation is ruined by the spreading of bad press, libel, and slander.  That is where the Softline Solutions Company comes in.  They offer Reputation Management Services to help keep the reputation of their clients as pristine as possible.  They do this with proactive, as well as reactive measures to keep on top of what is happening in the Internet world for their clients.

Dial up vs Broadband connections

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

I was reading an article about how many people with dial up Internet claim that the reason they have the dial up is because it costs less than the broadband connection does.  I have to wonder what their provider options are; perhaps they are too rural to have enough competition to make the broadband more affordable.

Before broadband became available in our area, we had dial-up Internet.  We liked it because that provided us access to the Internet, and that was the only option available.  But it was very slow.  But we put up with it because we HAD to.  Our phone line was so buy with personal calls, however, that we had to get a separate private line just for the Internet so that we could be able to talk on the phone while using the Internet.  Cell phone coverage was too spotty to be able to use the cell phone as our home phone.  I don’t care WHAT the Verizon commercials claim, we have Verizon and we can’t even talk on our cell phones at home!  Oh, don’t even get me started on that one!

Anyway, when broadband became available, the cost of the broadband, when compared to the cost of the dial up service AND the cost of the private line was actually cost competitive, so we switched to the broadband service.  And I have to say I LOVE IT!  It si SO MUCH FASTER!

Personality profiles

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Many companies are sending their employees to enrichment programs and seminars, in the hopes that the employees will become more satisfied with their jobs and more productive.

More employers are using personality profiles now to help their employees develop their career path.  One such personality profile program is called DiSC, which is sold by Resources Unlimited.  They are an authorized Inscape Publishing Distributor of the Online Disc Classic 2.0 Profile.  This program consists of 28 questions and only takes about ten to fifteen minutes to complete, and the results are delivered immediately.  This program can be used to help build team work, improve salesmanship, and improve management skills.
