China’s earthquake

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I’ve been hearing terrible reports about the devastation that China has suffered from that really bad earthquake.  I understand that it was a 7.8 on the Richter scale!  Yikes!  And then there have been several bad aftershocks too.  I’ve heard that thousands upon thousands are suspected dead; it will likely be weeks before a final count is done on the victims.  Boy, it sure seems that mother earth has it in for that side of the world!  I’m glad I don’t live on that side!

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day, so I went over to my mother’s house to pick her up and take her out to breakfast at her favorite restaurant, Friendly’s.  I gave her a bouquet of flowers in a beautiful vase, and after breakfast I took her home and visited with her for a while before heading home.  I think she was pleased.

Myanmar and Nargis

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

All the talk around the office today has been about the cyclone Nargis hitting the country of Myanmar, how at least 22000 people are believed dead from this horrible act of nature!  We’ve been talking about how the Myanmar government is refusing to let international relief efforts enter the country.  They say that the dictator is afraid that what the US REALLY wants is to overthrow his government and steal his oil, so he won’t allow the US ships with supplies dock.  That’s really so very sad, I feel badly for the poor commoners who are dying because of this delusion the leader is having!

May Day

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Today is May Day.  My family has always observed May Day simply with spending time with our gardens.  We try to cut pretty bouquets of flowers to bring in the house, and make a pretty flower basket arrangement to give to a friend or neighbor.  This year I decided to take the pretty flower basket arrangement to a nearby nursing home.  I think that they really appreciated it.
